Community Service Events

BEAUTIFUL ā€œUā€ DAY/PAINT THE BRIDGE
The students, faculty and staff of the University of Minnesota will work with the University of Minnesota Facilities Management to give back to the University Campus and surrounding community by painting the Washington Avenue Bridge on Thursday, April 22, 2004 from 10-2pm. Groups will be volunteering to paint the bridge as part of the Beautiful ā€˜U’ Day Activities.

HOMEWARD BOUND
The students, faculty, and staff of the University of Minnesota will work with Homeward Bound to provide household items for children and adults with developmental disabilities throughout the Twin Cities. Pairings, residence halls and student groups will be given a home the week of Spring Jam to collect donation items and complete service activities if they choose. Donations to your Homeward Bound home should be brought with you to the Spring Jam Kick Off event on Monday, April 19, 2004 at Ted Mann Concert Hall. Drop off begins at 6pm. Service activities should be completed by Friday, April 23, 2004.

The goal of the Homeward Bound project is to donate household items to furnish one of the 16 homes. Acceptable contributions range from household products like paper towels and tissues to craft items and personal care items. The goal in serving this philanthropy is to not only contribute items, but to contribute time and service where necessary.

MINNESOTA AIDS PROJECT
The Minnesota AIDS Project (MAP) is joining together with Spring Jam to co-present the Coast-to-Coast Game Show, a part of the Spring Jam Kickoff event on Monday, April 19, 2004 at 7pm in the Ted Mann Concert Hall. A representative from MAP will be the host of the Game Show and will be asking contestants some trivia questions, some which will be about AIDS trivia. The Minnesota AIDS Project (MAP) is a statewide, nonprofit agency committed to enhancing the lives of people living with HIV, prevention education for those at risk for HIV, and advocating for the rights of all affected by HIV.

RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE
The Ronald McDonald House provides housing for families with children who have life-threatening illnesses. To support the funding and operation of the homes, the Ronald McDonald House accepts pop tab donations. Pop tab donations will be collected Monday, April 26, 2004 between 11 am and 2pm. Pop tabs should be collected in 1-gallon zip lock bags. Points will be awarded according to the weight of bags collected.
