What is Quizbowl?

Quizbowl is a student organization that represents the University of Minnesota in academic Quizbowl competitions around the country. Quizbowl is a game that tests individual and team knowledge of a variety of subjects such as literature, science, history, art, and pop culture. The games tests recall and reflexes as the game is played using buzzers. The University of Minnesota is the defending undergraduate and Division II champion at the national tournament of the Academic Competition Federation, as well as the winner of three of the last five College Bowl championships.

When does the club meet?

Practices are Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-9 PM in room 305 of Coffman Memorial Union, starting on Wednesday, September 10. There are also novice practices for beginners that take place at the same time in Coffman Memorial Union, room 304 on Mondays. Beginners are also encouraged to attend both practices, if possible. Attendance at practice is never mandatory, but it's fun and will help you to improve!

When and where are tournaments?

Some tournaments are nearby and others may be several states away. Tournaments are never mandatory. Tournaments are usually held on Saturdays, and if they're far enough away, the team may leave on Friday afternoon and return Sunday.

Is there a financial commitment to joining University of Minnesota Quizbowl?

The team's budget generally covers transportation and tournament registration fees, and usually covers lodging as well.
