Group Description

Categories: Academic and Educational

The Biological Science Research Club (BSRC) serves as a forum for motivated undergraduate students to gain exposure to current research taking place at the U of M and beyond through seminar speaker presentations and discussion. Additionally, the club provides members with the opportunity to practice reading, interpreting, and presenting scientific journal articles of their choice, critical skills necessary for success in any research laboratory as well as in any graduate or professional school. In achieving these goals, the BSRC aims to inspire members to pursue future research and discovery in the Biological Sciences.

Group's principal activities, events, or programs:

BSRC meetings are held every other week. Once a month, we will attend a seminar speaker presentation by a prominent research scientist, read a relevant article, and invite the researcher to our meeting for discussion. We will also have a meeting that provides opportunities for members to present their own research or a research article of their choice.

How this group's activities benefit the University community:

The BSRC promotes interest in the Biological Sciences, serving to educate students about current research as well as providing numerous opportunities to practice analyzing and discussing scientific journal articles. All of these goals are critical components of success at a university as research-oriented and discovery driven as the U of M.

How this group fits into its categories:

We are a research-oriented, academic club. Meetings center around improvement of critical skills and educating members.

How to get involved with this group:

If you are interested in joining the Biological Science Research Club, please contact Xiaoying Lou, at louxx030@umn.edu.

An informational meeting will be held once the school year begins to determine future meeting dates for the 09-10 school year.

Thank you for your interest!!
