Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity Incorporated is a social fraternity that was founded on April 4, 1986 at the University of Iowa. We are a brotherhood based on cultural understanding and wisdom. Most noteworthy is that 18 men, of whom 15 were of Latin American or Hispanic origin/descent, 2 Asian, and 1 African-American founded Sigma Lambda Beta.
We believe in the principles of fairness, opportunity, and in the equality of all men no matter what their race, culture, or ethnicity. Our biggest goal is to see that all of society can realize the importance of these principles. In order to achieve this goal, we all strive to model these behaviors and present ourselves in a gentlemanly and educated fashion.
Group's principal activities, events, or programs:
Some of our primary events on campus include: The Cultural Celebration, The Date Auction, Cinco de Mayo Parade, Relay for Life, Homecoming Parade, Toys 4 Tots, Junior Achievement, Summer Bridge Program, INROADS, as well as, numerous other programs and activities around campus and the Twin Cities.
How this group's activities benefit the University community:
The activities that we, the Brothers of Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, Incorporated, partake in are focused around bringing a positive environment and influence to campus and the Twin Cities. We live our lives through our principles of Brotherhood, Scholarship, Community Service, & Cultural Awareness, and through these principles we look to bring about meaningful change in the lives we touch.
How this group fits into its categories:
Cultural & Diversity - We are a diverse group of men, who strive at sharing and educating others about our own cultures, as well as, other cultures.
Fraternity - We are a Latino-based, Multicultural Fraternity.
Honorary & Leadership - We pride ourselves on our close-knit bonds, history, and traditions. We aim at developing every one of our Brothers into the future leaders of today and tomorrow.
