Tony Diggs passed away on May 24, 2006, after a long battle with cancer. He began his career at the University of Minnesota more than 16 years ago and most recently served as the Director of the Student Activities Office (SAO) from 2003-2006. Read on...

This award ceremony is in honor of Tony Diggs, former Director of the Student Activities Office. The awards are intended to recognize student group achievements during the calendar year 2007. Award details are as follows:

  • The awards are open to all Campus Life Programs and Registered Student Organizations, which includes organizations who serve undergraduate, graduate, and professional students.
  • Nominations will be accepted from members and non-members of groups.
  • Groups may be nominated for more than one award.
  • Nominations were due Monday, March 10th at 8:30am. (EXTENDED). We are not accepting nominations at this time.
  • Unless otherwise noted, only those activities and events during calendar year 2007 will be considered.
  • For each award nomination, please keep responses to 250 words per question.
  • The judging committee reserves the right to grant more than one award in each category.
  • The judging committee will consist of University of Minnesota faculty, staff, and students. Please note, Student Activities fulltime staff will not serve on the judging committee. As such, applications should be written as to be understood by individuals with no prior knowledge of your organization.
  • Awards are determined solely on the information provided in the application.
    Applications should be concise, but should thoroughly address the questions asked, as judges may not be familiar with your student group's activities.
  • Award winners will be revealed at the ceremony taking place in the Great Hall on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 from 5-7 p.m. Award winners will not be notified ahead of time if they have won.

Awards for Undergraduate & Graduate/Professional Groups

Outstanding Program/Event

This award recognizes the student group that has best demonstrated their efforts in planning and executing a program and/or event. The program/event should be organized by a single group.

Outstanding Co-sponsored Program/Event

This award recognizes student groups that have best demonstrated their collaborative efforts in planning and executing a program and/or event.

Outstanding Service/Philanthropic Project of the Year

This award recognizes the student group or groups that have best demonstrated their efforts in planning and executing a successful service/philanthropic project.

Innovation Award

This award recognizes a student group that showed innovation and/or fostered creativity through their program/events.

Outstanding Rookie Organizations

These two awards recognize newer student groups who, in less than 3 years since inception, have demonstrated significant success and development in following the mission and goals of their organization. Learn more about whether your group is an CLP or Registered Student Organization (RSO) here.

Awards for Undergraduate Student Groups

Outstanding Organizations

These two awards recognize established student groups (more than 3 years since inception) who have demonstrated significant success and development in following the mission and goals of their organization. At least two groups will be recognized based on their classification with the Student Activities Office (Campus Life Program and Registered Student Organization). Outstanding Undergraduate Student Organization Advisor

Co-sponsored by the Minnesota Student Association (MSA), this award recognizes one outstanding advisor of an undergraduate student group who has gone above and beyond to help their organization accomplish its mission and goals.

Awards for Graduate and Professional Student Groups

Outstanding Graduate or Professional Organization of the Year

This award recognizes organizations who predominantly serve graduate or professional students and demonstrated significant success and development in following the mission and goals of their organization.

Outstanding Graduate/Professional Student Organization Advisor

Co-sponsored by the Graduate and Professional Student Assembly (GAPSA), this award recognizes one outstanding advisor of a graduate or professional student group who has gone above and beyond to help their organization accomplish its mission and goals.
