Student Group Fees FAQ

When is the fees application due?

Applications are due January 25, 2008 via email to Erich Martin at marti351@umn.edu. Under no circumstances will late applications be accepted or reviewed.

Can I get help writing my application?

Student Activities Advisors can work with your organization to prepare or review your application. Set up an appointment by calling (612) 626-6919. Walk-in appointments are also available at Room 126 of Coffman Union. Daily times for walk-in appointments are available.

What's included in the fees application?

This year, the application can be considered in three parts. The entire application is available for download.

Part 1 – Fees Handbook

Part 2 - Application, in Microsoft Word format

The application functions as both a detailed request for funding and an annual report that shows the group's current structure as well as recent efforts and activities. Groups are also asked to share how a decrease of funding would impact their organization.

Part 3 – Budget Sheets, in Microsoft Excel format

What do you need at the fees presentation?

The presentation is your opportunity to bring the application to life and explain your organization's funding request. Highlight the work of your organization, and how the proposed funding will help achieve the organization's goals. Showcase your group's successes and point out how the group plans to improve. Don't forget to bring copies of your written application. The Committee will have reviewed it prior to the presentation, be prepared to answer questions regarding specifics of your application.

What's the top three things I should remember?

  1. Don't procrastinate. Work on your application in advance with leaders of your organization. This will give you time to prepare, double check all information and financials, and leave time to revise the application.
  2. Get help. Student Activities Advisors are here to help your organization plan a thorough application. Set up an appointment to get help today.
  3. Practice. Work with your student group to prepare a dynamic presentation that brings your application to life. Practicing the presentation in advance will allow you to work out any bugs before the real thing!
