Student Group Benefits

Student groups seeking to establish a relationship with the University in order to have access to University facilities, services and staff shall register with Student Unions & Activities.

Registered student groups have access to the following benefits:

1. Access to student group specific email and web accounts - more information on setting up this account at http://www.sua.umn.edu/groups/handbook/emailweb.php.
2. Use of the following areas for meetings and events at free or reduced rates:
   1. Coffman Memorial Union
   2. St. Paul Student Center
   3. University classroom space
   4. Outdoor campus space
3. Consultation with Student Unions & Activities (SUA) staff members to assist with organizational issues, conflict management, risk management, taxes, budget development, and student group and University policy
4. General liability insurance coverage for most on-campus student group activities - more information about student group insurance can be found in the Insurance section of this handbook
5. Eligibility to apply for grants and student service fees, more information at: http://www.sua.umn.edu/groups/funding/
6. Workshop handouts available on organizational and leadership topics (e.g. developing an agenda, retreat planning, or motivating volunteers)
7. Eligibility to apply for office space in Coffman Memorial Union and St. Paul Student Center
8. Ability to have an on-campus mailbox, via Student Unions & Activities
9. Use of contact tables in the student unions and outside University space, for information dissemination
10. Possible listing in the gopher guide and other campus resource directories
11. Inclusion in the SUA student group website http://www.sua.umn.edu/groups/
12. Ability to conduct fundraisers and sales on campus with approved permit(s)
13. Participation in campus wide events (e.g. Activities Fairs, Paint the Bridge, Homecoming, Spring Jam, etc.)
14. Ability to promote events on the campus wide University of Minnesota Events Calendar website located at http://events.umn.edu/
15. Ability to work with the All Campus Elections Commission on your group's elections
16. Leadership Consultation/Advising

The benefits you are able to access, as an officer of a student group, are for your group's use alone. For instance, reserving a meeting room, event venue or contact table allows you to use this space only for your group's purpose. You specifically cannot reserve spaces for use by other student groups, University departments, outside groups, or individual use to provide access or reduced costs in using University facilities, services, or staff. Providing this inappropriate access to student group benefits may result in disciplinary action against your group.
