Respectful Community Members

Student Unions & Activities is proud of the diverse array of student groups registered with our office. It is our expectation that individuals involved in student groups and groups as a whole are respectful members of our community.

Student Unions & Activities expects all student groups and their members to abide by all state laws, which deem hate crimes illegal. Should your group be involved in a hate crime, sanctions will follow. Should your group be the victim of a hate crime, please notify us immediately for assistance.

A hate crime is "a criminal offense committed against a person which is motivated, in whole or in part, by the offender's bias against a race, religion, disability status, ethnicity/national origin, gender, or sexual orientation." (Stop the Hate facilitator's guide, page 53).

A hate incident is "an act of conduct, speech, or expression to which a bias motive is evident as a contributing factor (regardless of whether the act is criminal." (Stop the Hate facilitator's guide, page 54).
