Student Groups Website

You are at:

Before You Begin

Before you register, you should know what kind of information we'll need from you:

Group Name

This will be the name of your group (e.g. "Students Supporting Waffle Bake-a-thons"). The Official Handbook has a few rules about naming your group.

Classification

Are you an RSO or a CLP? A Registered Student Organization (RSO) has no direct relationship to the University. A Campus Life Program (CLP) is a student organization that is governed by University academic or administrative departments. Most groups are Registered Student Organizations.

If you are registering a Campus Life Program, you will need the X.500 of your advisor and the department head or dean of your sponsoring University Department.

Department

Campus Life Programs (CLPs) must be affiliated with a University academic or administrative department and have a designated University faculty or staff advisor. Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) can skip this field.

Members

We need only a rough estimate of your expected membership in the coming academic year. This has no impact on your registration.

Address, Phone, Email, and Website

These fields will be publicly displayed in the Student Group Directory. They provide a way for students to contact you about joining your group.

Website is an optional field. Address, phone, and email are required so that Student Activities can contact your group. The email must be a University of Minnesota (@umn.edu) address.

Description

Students will see this when browsing your group profile on the SUA website. Make it good!

Officers

Your group will need five officers, including yourself, when you first register. As you grow, you may need to add more officers. All of your group's officers will be able to edit your registration, including the list of officers itself.

You will need the U of M X.500 internet IDs of your officers for registration. This is the part before @umn.edu in the officer's official U of M email address

We will ask you a few essay questions. Think carefully about them! They will be shown in your group profile in the directory.

  1. Please list your principle activities, events, or programs.
  2. How do your activities benefit the University community?
  3. Please explain to someone who isn't familiar with your group why you believe you fit into each category you select. (cultural, political, etc.)
  4. How can someone get involved with your group?
