Mary A. McEvoy Award
Overview of Award (McEvoy Biography)
The Mary A. McEvoy Award for Public Engagement and Leadership shall be given annually to graduate and professional students who display leadership and public engagement which is clearly "above and beyond" one's normal duties and responsibilities. The award shall be given to one graduate and one professional student and each receive a scholarship of $1000. Candidates must demonstrate dedication and assistance that benefit an individual, group or community, or strengthens a democratic way of life.
Public Engagement is defined as:
- Excellence in Scholarship: Facilitating and improving public engagement initiatives in one's own community.
- Research: Developing, conducting and disseminating original and publishable public engagement research.
- Community Concerns: Setting up local initiatives that could create reciprocal partnerships within the community.
Recipients of this award for shall each receive a $1,000 scholarship. For more detailed information visit GAPSA's website.

- 3.50 GPA (as of Dec 31, 2008)
- Written essay and personal interview
Application Process
- Candidates for this award must first apply for the President's Student Leadership and Service Awards.
- The PSLSA committee will forward a pool of qualified Graduate/Professional students to the Mary A. McEvoy award selection committee
- Selection Committee will send additional essay questions to be answered by candidate.
- Awards presented at the President’s Awards Banquet on Monday, May 4th, 2009
